Joe

After installing SP4, my dial up connection constantly
crashes right after the handshake tones, with an erro
message stating Explorer.exe has generated errors and will
be closed by windows. You need to restart the program.

When I restart the dialup connection, it thinks the modem
is in use and will not release it for redialing.

I am forced to reboot and then the process repeats.

I have reloaded the modem.
My cable network connection works fine.
Dialup used to work fine before SP4

HELP! Please....

Hi Joe. I am in the same position that you are in.
Except I get a gui.exe error. Hopefully someone has an
answer for us.

On Windows 2000 Professional.

After installing SP3 the dial in tones on my modem could
no longer be heard. (the volume is up to max for the modem
and all other sounds work)

Now, months later I installed SP4 and none of my dialups
work anymore at all. I dial up and get an error "not
answering." But if I call with another computer from the
same line to the same number it works.

Any suggestions?

Its fixed. Here's an update.

Played around uninstalling modem, etc. Tried Dialer and
it didnt work. Then finally used HyperTerminal launched
from Program/Win NT folder and dialed out to a number with
it. That finally got the modem to dial out. After that
somehow, that reset all my dial out connections to
settings I had several months ago. I changed the settings
back to the correct current settings and now it works.
Dialer also works now.

Still no sounds from the modem but I found 4 seperate
places to turn it off and on and control the volume. They
are all on but I bet it is a conflict since there are too
many modem sound off/on controls.

Joe,
After installing sp4, when attempting to dial out through
RAS, I receive "Explor.exe has generated errors and will
be closed by Windows. An error log is being generated."
MS article 824301 addresses the issue, but I need to
contact MS support for the hotfix, not having any luck
doing that! I go to the site posted for the hot fix and
receive " You are not authorized to view this page.
/Q824301_ENU_i386_MID150372_zip.exe
Any word on when MS is going to release this hot fix?
Thanks
..
