I am wondering if my client is the only one
that has had problems with this update?
My client installed "Security Update for
Microsoft Windows (KB828749)" This morning 11-
13-03 and immediately lost dial up networking.
The error reported by the system when she
tried to connect was an "unable to open port
X" error. However the modem was fine and
worked well with any 3rd party dial-up that
was not using "Dial-up Networking"
I had her remove the "Security Update for
Microsoft Windows (KB828749)" and after
removal and a restart, "Dial-up networking"
began connecting fine again.
Oh in addition when removing KB828749 , the OS
warned me that the "Security Update Q329115"
might be disabled. As a precaution be sure
that Q329115 isn't something your system
needs.
After un-installing KB828749 I used the
Microsoft workaround and simply made sure my
firewall had disabled the UDP and TCP ports
affected.
Just curious if any others have seen this. I
didn't see any caveats about it on the
Microsoft update site. If this isn't an
isolated issue it could be a big problem for
people depending on dial up.
