There is no icon in the Notification Area when DUN is active, and I see

There is none now. Kinda odd but I leave my connection on all the time
so it hasn't bugged me... yet.
All connections use one icon now. If you do not see the network icon
then right click on the task bar and select properties. Then open the
Notification Area tab and put a checkmark next to Network under System
icons. That will show an icon next to the Volume icon. If you single
click that then it will list all active network connections including
Dial-up networking.
