I have Windows XP SP1 with US Robotics modem (model
5699B) on com3. I am trying to establish Internet dial-
up connection. Modem takes a call, the handshake begins
and then drops. No reason in the event log. No popup
window with error message. Windows modem diagnostics
shows no problem.

I have
- uninstalled and reinstalled modem
- modem driver, dated by 08/23/2002 v.5.00.000.136
- Windows XP TCP/IP stack through "netsh int ip reset
log.txt"
- Internet Explorer 6 SP1.

If I run "netsh ras set tracing * enable" tracing log
files in
%windir%\tracing indicate some errors.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

You may need your ISP to help you with this one. Maybe they use some
protocol you aren't configured for.

I spoke with my ISP which is Bellsouth with 5 different
help-desk reps. All what they could do for me is just
asked me to check the phone number I am dialing. That's
it. I can connect from my notebook computer through the
Bellsouth without any problem.

I can e-mail log files from the %windir%\tracing
directory is somebody can give me a hand with
understanding of them. There are indications of errors in
the log files.

I had the same problem, but using a Acer Surf II USB modem.
WinXP Prof on a Intel 865 PERL board (USB 2.0)
If there is a solution, I would like to get it.
* I did deinstall all hotfixes
* I did deinstall SP1 by using XP repair function.
* I also checked the modem trace log and system logs.
the was no error.
* The modem does work on another Win XP computer well.
But this computer has an USB 1.1 .

Any suggestions would be helpful.
