Dial-up connection closes after send/recieve on starup Outlook 200

Outlook 2003 sp1 can't get a consistant dialup connection Outlook express
works fine ,upon opening, the dailup connection does it's thing I get online
send and recieve connection stays up so I can respond if needed.Do my work
and disconnect. I cannot get Outlook 2003 to consistently make the call to
the dialup connection that Outlook express uses. The only combination of
options in the dialup connection settings is "always use my modem" and
"dialup during a background send and recieve". BUT it only connects does a
send and recieve and disconnects. If I make the dial up connection manually
then start Outlook 2003 I can stay on line. Seems as though Outlook 2003
connection to the "connectiod"is at fault?
 
There's no information here. You failed to state your mail account type and
the connection type you set for it. State more clearly what it is you want
Outlook to do.
 
I thought it was clear other than It's a pop3 account only. Like I said
Outlook express uses the dialup connection fine Outlook 2003 will Dial the
default dial up connection a simple earthlink dialup account. When I start
OUtlook 2003 it should call up the dailup do a send and recieve STAY
CONNECTED to the Server. IT drops the line after the send and recieve. This
is an automatic send and recieve.

No you didn't and still haven't. You must state the connection type you
specified for the email account. It does not matter what you're using. It
matters greatly what you specified for the mail account.

It's a simple MODEM DIAL UP POP3 Connection. Look I made a modem dialup
connection called "earthlink" with all the information that the server needs
to connect. When I use that "default Earthlink connection with outlook
express all is fine. If I specify the same dialup connection for Outlook
2003 the only way I can get it to dial out and do a send an recieve is to
select "Connect using my phoneline " Under the connection tab in internet
e-mail settings. Then under options Mail Setup I have to select
"automatically dialup during a background send/receive" other wise it will
not connect. When it does connect it does a send receive then disconnects the
connection will not stay up.

Normal behavior. You set the wrong connection type. When you set the
connection type to Phone Line, Outlook will actively manage that connection.
It assumes dial up users need to limit connection time and disconnects after
a poll.
Set your connection type to LAN since you don't really want Outlook to
manage the connection.

Like I said earlier if I select any other connection option like the
lan/modem when outlook is offline it WILL NOT DIAL.

Clarify what you mean.
If you have set Outlook to work offline, of course it won't dial.
If you have not set it to work offline and if the connection type is set to
LAN, it will dial if a connection is not present.

Look. Don't yell at me. I'm just telling you how Outlook works for everyone
else. Setting the connection to LAN and configuring an automatic polling
interval has always worked to do what you want.

Sorry Russ...I found a post that may resolve my issue...send receive group
may be damaged. I'm going down that path ..thanks.

Here are the other known reasons Send/Receive might not work:
1. You have created an unrealistic polling interval. Many users set their
polling interval to 1 minute thinking they will be downloading mail
continuously as it arrives. Such settings are not recommended. They put an
unnecessary strain on mail servers and can create conflicting polling
requests that can damage your Send/Receive Group or even your account
settings. 10 minutes is the recommended minimum.
2. While exiting Outlook, you inadvertently set your profile to Work Offline
(this option is immediately above the Exit command in the File menu).
3. You have a damaged Send/Receive Group as documented here:

4. You have overridden your Send/Receive Group settings as documented here:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q320/8/36.asp
5. Your mail account settings are corrupt. Recreate your mail account from
scratch.
6. Firewall software is blocking your transmission. Disable your Firewall
temporarily to see if automatic polling is restored.
