q20

hi there

i've a problem with my computer (xp pro). i've noticed over the last couple
of months that dial-up connections are causing my computer to become
terribly unresponsive. to the point where i have to hard reboot it at times.

there seems to be no common demoniator as to when it will work or not. from
a frsh reboot it either works or not. when it works, i have no problems at
all. but when it doesn't, programmes don't open, the internet doesn't
respond... nothing. not even ctrl-alt-del does anything.

this is a serious pain in the arse. serious. i've run regclean, i've checked
for spyware, i've done all i can think of. but nothing is helping. i've
checked viruses too. nothing.

any, and i mean any suggestions would be great. except for a system restore.
too many things have happened on my computer for a restore to cause anything
other than more problems.

thanks a million

Have a look in device manager and see if there are any conficts listed with
the modem.

If not you could try putting the card in a different PCI slot if you have
one spare that sometimes helps.
