Sometimes modems have their own speakers. If this is the case,
there might be a jack to plug some speakers into on the back of
the modem, in which case you'll need to plug your equipment in
there. This is not always the case and it's quite rare that there is
a jack at all on a modem.
Sometimes the modems have a wire inside the computer that
hooks up the modem to the sound card. If this is the case, the
sound will come out of your sound card instead of coming out
of the modem... er, what happens is the modem sends the
sound signal to the sound card, which in turn usually sends it
out to your speakers.
You'll have to look at your sound card and modem to figure
all this out.
