Does anyone know how to break up a diagram (cycle) and animate the pieces individually? Thanks!

It may work to save it out as a enhanced metafile then break it up and
animate it.
I have just done a test and it worked reasonably well.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]
[TOP ISSUE - Are you having difficulty opening presentations in PowerPoint
that you just created (you can save, but not open)? -

Hello,

You don't have to do anything special. This capability is already built
into PowerPoint 2002/2003 for the native diagrams.

1) Select cycle diagram
2) "Slide Show -> Custom Animation" to bring up Custom Animation (CA) task
pane.
3) In the CA task pane add an effect to the diagram (example: "Add Effect
-> Entrance -> Appear")
4) Click on the effect added to the CA task pane and from it's drop-down
menu choose "Effect Options"
5) In the "Diagram Animation" tab select "Clockwise" from the "Group
Diagram" drop-down list.

This adds a separate animation effect entry in the CA task pane for each
segment of your Cycle diagram. You might have to expand the grouped effect
in the CA pane to see the individual entries for each segment. Now you
change the effects for individual segments so that they don't all use the
same effect. Although you cannot reoder which segment will animate when
from the CA task pane you can reorder the segments using the diagrams
toolbar ("Reverse diagram", "Move shape forward", Move shape backward").

If you (or anyone else reading this message) have suggestions for how to
make this easier to do in PowerPoint, don't forget to send your feedback
(in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).

Is there any way to get powerpoint viewer 2003 to use the grouped ppt 2003 custom automation settings for diagrams?

Hi Susan:

These diagrams appear to be un-editable objects. I have tried through
several ways to "break apart" the radial diagram, but with no luck. If you
find out anything about editing please post.

Ther reason this is useful, as you indicated, is for applying treatment to
each element. Also, in the radial diagram it would be nice to resize the
center ball, but that doesn't work either.

Also, I am surprised at the dearth of diagrams. My version only contains 6!
Is that really a feature?

Good luck!

Michael

Copy the diagram and then Edit/Paste Special.

Choose WMF or EMF.

Select the pasted image.

Draw/Ungroup. (You may have to do this twice.)

Delete any unwanted pieces.

Regroup the remainder as necessary.
