Does anyone have a suggestion for a diagnostic test program that can
be used if WINDOWS XP is not able to boot up? I've seen mention of
TUFFTEST and PC DOCTOR. Any opinion of one better than the other
OR, another suggestion? best, Aaron

If Windows fails to boot, no Windows program will be of much help
:-)
I suggest you take a look at BartPE.

I don't know about PC DOC, but TUFFTEST boots up from a floppy disk without accessing Windows. Aaron

Aaron:

AFAIK, there is no single program, as it is so dependent on the error
messages you get when you say "windows XP can't boot up", as well as
the root cause itself.

Bulletproof diagnostics start from the fundamental hardware of the
system, and for that my first tool is memtest86. I have in the past
identified a problem with a memory address location that would not
have been exercised except by Windows. You won't identify this sort
of error any other way. I simply don't waste my time trying to track
these sorts of errors anymore without recertifying my hardware
platform first.
