I want to setup DHCP on my new Active Directory network - it's the first
time I've done anything like this and I've got a simple question :

my active directory system has a primary and a backup domain controller
- if I set up DHCP can that be supported by a backup server or is it
automatically covered by the backup domain? If not is my only option for
backup to have the backup server with the dhcp service ready to roll but
turned off until needed?

Thanks

well actually the domain controllers should have a static
address but if u want it to get an IP address from the
DHCP server just make it a DHCP client(" have it uptain an
IP address automatically

Hello All,

Yes you can have a second DHCP server with the same scope options and have
the service turned off. Personally, I would follow:
325473 HOW TO: Move a DHCP Database to a Computer That Is Running Windows
http://kb/article.asp?id=Q325473

and download the DHCPexim tool. If you had the primary DHCP server go
down, export the database using this tool and import it to the destination
server via the same tool. I have done this several times in my test
enviroment and have never had problems.
