I am running DHCP server on a W2K/SP2. I would like to
know what is the maximum amount of scopes that can be
configured.

There is not a hard coded limit. Your only limitation is resources. How many
scope where you wanting to load?

As Marc says, there is no (significant) hard coded limit.

The DHCP server will happily setup more scopes than you can effectively
manage on one server, or on one network.

Let us know when you get to 300 or so, please.

We have about 476 scopes configured at the moment. And it
has not been a problem as this has been like this for at
least a couple years. But lately the clients out in the
field (not all, but more then it should be)that are
starting to have problems connecting and we are not sure
if something changed on the routers at these units or
soemthing on the PC changed or if it is actually the DHCP
server. When you do an ipconfig on these workstations the
ip address for the server comes back as 255.255.255.255.
Now if we run regedit and change the DCHPServer="our dchp
server's address" then the workstation grabs an address
fine. Any direction on this would be greatly appreciated.

What happens when you watch the conversation with NetMon or a
sniffer?

It is not improbable that a time out is occurring....
