DHCP Reservation question

Most of our workstations use DHCP. All of our servers use
static addresses. I would like to change the servers to
use DHCP reservations instead so they will pick up changes
in the DNS servers, etc. I know how to add the
reservation. What I have a question about is whether the
reservation needs to exist in both of our DHCP servers or
whether it should only be in one. Also, does that address
need to reside in the Address Pool as well?

Thanks.

Depends on how you deployed them and what they do. If you have multiple DHPC
Servers doing the same subnet (Address Pool), then yes.
Also, does that address need to reside in the Address Pool as well?

It can only be in the Scope that serves the IP Range it is from.

BTW - I think what you are doing is a bad idea. If you lose a DHCP Server
then potientially you could lose all the servers that are "served" by it. A
DHCP Reserved address is not as good or as dependable as Static.

Servers should be as "independent" as possible and using static IP#s is part
of that plan. You should not be wanting to change a server's IP# by
altering DHP anyway, Changing a server's IP# can be catastrophic if the
software running on the server is tied to the IP. Clients can also "shoot
themselves in the head" if the Server's IP# is changed. Changing a server's
IP# should be treated with extreme caution and planning, and involving DHCP
just doesn't fit into that in my opinion. If you have time to do it right,
then you have time to do it Statically.
