I work in a mixed Mac and PC enviroment, majority Mac, and I have DHCP
running on 2 servers with different scopes both are Win2k. The issue that I
am having is with the client name in the address lease of the DHCP server.
Some of them come up with a BAD_ADDRESS which is not that frequent. The
bigger problem is the complete lack of name in the lease. I have noticed the
problem because of some monitoring and then trying to locate the particular
user via IP that was leased by one of the servers. Is there a reason that I
cannot see that client name? Also I do see some of the Mac names and most of
the PCs.

Thanks in advance.

The BAD_ADDRESS entries are the result of the DHCP servers issuing a ping to
and receiving a reply from the address before assigning it. These probably
represent statically IP'd machines.

The BAD_ADDRESS IPs should not be statict, but I would not completely ruleit
out, but that is not the larger problem because there are only a few of them,
but I have aroung 80 on one server and 200 on the other. Those numbers are
not consistent, but they are frequently close to that. With numbers like
that you can see why that is a problem. Also the Unique IDs, most of which
show the correct MAC address, are strange numbers that appear to be hex
numbers but can be up to around 100 charcaters long. This has not been a
huge issue yet, but if something were to happen and it would become a legal
issue this may be a problem.
