I recently added two new scopes to an existing DHCP
server. The two scopes handle addresses from a class C
address range that is broken into two networks using a
255.255.255.128 mask.

When I added these two scopes a blue exclamation point
appears over the folder icon next to the scope name and
next to the name of the server hosting DHCP.

I haven't been able to determine what this means, or if it
is cause for concern.

Thanks!

Are your IP address range X.Y.Z.1 - 126 and X.Y.Z.129 - 254 ?
Do you get any error in your event log? Event ID?

AT

Yes, those are the address ranges that I'm using.

There are no errors in the event log.

Any idea what the blue exclamation point indicates?

A subnet mask of 255.255.255.192 would break my address
range into 4 networks instead of two. That isn't really
wnat I'm looking for.

I've reviewed the RFC 1878 description of variable length
masks and this appears to be a valid approach.

Any idea what the blue exclamation point means?

Thanks.

Here is a definition for the blue exclamation you are seeing on your scope.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/howitworks/communications/nameadrmgmt/dhcpcons.asp. This seems to
indicate that the scope has no available IP addresses. Since this is a new scope, I would have to assume that it may be
improperly setup. Is the server actually giving out addresses in that range?

Thank you,
