Hello, I am setting up a network in order to share a DSL
connection for a client. They have only three computers.
Two desktops, (one running Win XP Pro and the other
running Win XP Home) and one laptop running Win XP Pro.
The laptop and the desktop running Win XP Pro configured
automatically and were surfing in now time. The desktop
running Win XP Home is another story. I cannot get it to
accept an ip from the dhcp. If you use the Network test
tool, it comes up with an error like this. "DHCP address
at 255.255.255.255 (FAILED)". Above that, it shows that
an ip was leased to this computer and when it expires but
then it gives that FAILED message. I have tried releasing
and renewing ips and even manually configuring them for
what they should be, but nothing is working. I have even
reset the TCP/IP Stack and that didn't work either. Any
suggestions would be helpful. Thanks -Corey

Greetings Corey

Make sure that the DHCP Client service is running:

Right click My Computer, and click Manage.
Double click Services and Applications.
Double click Services.
Double click DHCP Client. If the Service status is Stopped, click Start.
Set the Startup type to Automatic.
