I've got a bit of a problem with my Windows 2000 DHCP
server. Here's my network layout:
I've got 5 sites total: the main office and 5 remote
offices. all remote sites are connected to the main
office by means of T1 lines. The routers at each remote
site are acting as my relay agents. All servers are
centrally located at the main office which is where the
DHCP server is located. I have the server configured with
one superscope and 5 subscopes for each site.
Here's the problem:
Whenever anyone with a laptop is at one site and goes to
another site, the DHCP server keeps handing out the exact
same address that the laptop had at the previous site.
I've released and renewed to death, deleted the old DHCP
lease on the server, deleted DNS records, and nothing
worked. The only way I can get around this issue is to
make a reservation for the computer. It will then grab
the new address from the reservation and then I can delete
it. This problem happens for every PC I've brought in
here. It even happens after rebuilding machines too. My
only guess is that the DHCP server is storing the MAC
address of each network adapter and not releasing it
unless it is forced.
Has anyone seen this problem and know what's going on? If
so, I'd appreciate it if you could help me out.
Thanks!
