Simon

I want to switch on and access my home PC from office via
the Internet. My home PC is WOL-enabled and I have
already switched on the remote desktop access settings in
WinXP Pro. I have sent the magic packet to my home PC by
AMD's Magic Packet Utility (I have also tried Depicus's
Wake On Lan) and then used Remote Desktop Connection to
establish the connection but it failed. The event log of
my home PC shows that it could not get the updated network
card address from DHCP server. Can someone tell me what
was wrong and how to fix this problem? Thanks.

i would set a static ip address on the home pc. there is
also a web based remote desktop utility you should look
into from what i read it allows you to connect through IE

Thanks. I am not sure whether the IP address of my home
PC is a static one or not. But everytime I use the
ipconfig utility, it shows the same IP address. Anyway,
could you tell me how to set a static IP address?

Don't do that yet.

Tell us what kind of Internet connection you have on the home machine?

If you switch on the machine normally, at home, do you still get this same
error message in the log file? And, even with that error message, does
everything still work fine?

It is possible that this message is not related to your root problem
(although it can be corrected, and will cut your boot time by at least 30
seconds!)
