I am running WIN200 Prof on an Dell Inspiron 5000e and my TCP/IP
functionality has stopped. When I go to the command prompt and type
ipconfig I get and IP Address of 169.254.173.83, a subnet mask of
255.255.0.0. If I try to do a ipconfig /release I get "All adapter
bound to DHCP do not have DHCP addresses". Any assistance on resolving
this problem is GREATLY appreciated. THANK YOU.

Your workstation cannot find the DHCP server, so it has an autoconfigured IP
address (APIPA) - that's what the 169. one is. Sounds like you have
networking problems (cabling, hub/switch?) or the DHCP server is not
functioning.

Any other ideas?? All of the other systems the network are functioning
properly. Any ideas on how to fix this individual pc. Thanks.

Try a different network cable (locally and/or at the patch panel) - or
different NIC - or different switch port - or all.

You can remove/reinstall TCP/IP, and see if that works, but this is so
rarely *not* a hardware problem.
All of that has been tried. It is some type of software problem.

Have you tried removing all networkprotocols, even removing the nic, reboot
and reinstall it again?
