Hi All

GOt a laptop with Win2000 SP4 installed. Tried adding to Win2000 Domain but
keeps coming up DHCP errors. Found the when loading I get an event error
"The requested service provided could not be loaded or initialized".

If I manually change the NIC to an IP address, etc I get hundreds of event
errors

Event ID 29028
IPRIP

IPRIP was unable to create a socket for address. The data is the error code.

When its in this state I can ping the server and other PCs and they can ping
it but still can't add to network.

Also found other TCP services e.g. Simple TCP won't installl and load
properly.

ANy clues how to solve? Removed NIC and added tried another but still the
same.

THanks
Paul

Not real clear what your problem report means....

Run IPConfig -- did you get an IP address from DHCP?
IF not are you on the same subnet with the DHCP server?
If NOT then you need to setup a score for that subnet and find
some way to forward the client requests to the DHCP server...
(bootp forwarding routers OR DHCP Relay Agent locally)

Consider upgrading NT to SP6a++ -- SP4 is notoriously buggy.

Hi Herb

Since posting found the fault. Winsock had become corrupted. Removing the
entry from the registry and reinstalling TCP cured the problem.

Cheers for the reply

Paul
