Well, for one thing, after half the dhcp expire time, your machine would
simply ask to keep it's existing lease, and the dhcp server would let
it, so no IP addresses would change.
It could create a lot of traffic, depending on the size of your network.
The correct duration is probably indicated by the static/flux
condition of your environment. Mine is 16 days. I have heard a lot of
longer periods, and a lot of shorter ones, like 7 days...
