I am having trouble with my home LAN. In multiple
configurations with multiple NIC's and multiple routers,
my XP Pro laptop still has great difficulty obtaining an
IP from my routers, either via static or DHCP.
I think that the root of the problem lies with the Default
Gateway. If I specify the Default Gateway in my network
connection's advanced settings, I am sometimes able to
obtain an IP.
In all cases, the NIC connects to the router... the
trouble is in obtaining the IP number.
When getting an IP number fails, ipconfig lists my default
gateway as blank, even when I've specified my router's IP
number as the default gateway in my connections TCP/IP
settings.
I have an XP Pro destkop that is able to obtain an IP from
the same routers with no trouble.
Does this problem sound familiar to anyone? Does anyone
know how to figure out what gateway Windows will use,
prior to attempting to establish a network connection
(registry, etc.)?
