Hi,

Setting up a new network. Just set up the DC on W2K3 Std. w/ DNS, DHCP and
WINS. What settings do I need to define on DHCP? During ActiveDirectory
setup, it automatically defined the scope. Could someone suggest a list of
other settings I should define in DHCP? Thanks,

Sam

First AUTHORIZE it (right click in MMC)

Second: Create scope for each subnet.
During ActiveDirectory
setup, it automatically defined the scope.

I don't think so. It does create a DNS Zone if you allow
that but not DHCP.

Normal values in a Scope for Windows network:

required: Address range, subnet mask, lease period

optional (but practically required):
Default Gateway address(es)
DNS Server address(es)
DNS domain name

Likely needed if you have more than one subnet:
WINS Server address(es) with Node-type

Other options: Allowing/Forcing the DHCP server to
register the clients in DNS

Thanks Herb. Your help is much appreciated.

You are welcome.

I also neglected some less common optional elements
that might be use: reservations (hosts that need specific
address OR specific options different from other hosts
on the same scope); exclusions (IP addresses within the
range that must not however be distributed by THIS DHCP
server.)
