I am running Windows 2000 Professional on an old P2 266Mhz
workstation with an on board NIC using generic drivers.
The manufacturer, Intel, doesn't have updated drivers
available. I am connected to a router with a cable modem
connection and one other pc. The other pc can connect to
the internet with no problem, the Win2K machine has no
connectivity. ipconfig /all doesn't show any
configuration. ipconfig /release or ipconfig /renew BOTH
yield an error "error: no adapters bound to tcp/ip are
enabled for dhcp." I have removed and reinstalled the
windows network service and the tcp/ip protocol, as well
as the NIC in Device Manager. tcp/ip is the only protocol
installed. it is set to obain dhcp and dns server info
automatically, and it shows dhcp as enabled.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Do you have some type of device acting as a DHCP server? The router
possibly? If you have something setup to act as a DHCP server, then check
the network cable, the hub/switch/router port you plug the W2K box into.

Thanks,

the problem is with the drivers associated with your on-
board nic. If you know the specific motherboard model,
Intel would have the mobo drivers available for the
ethernet connector. If not, go into the setup and
disable the on-board nic and install an expansion NIC
with proper drivers. Your DHCP is not seeing a
connection with the bogus generic drivers on the on board
nic adapter.
