Hi,

I realise there is a security issue with dhcp and dns on the same server in
windows 2000. Does anyone know if this issue exists in Win 2003. Also,
what is the recommended setup by MS, dhcp and dns separated or together on
same server ?

Thanks

Not necessarily -- the issue arises for DCs when the DHCP server is added to
the "DNSUpdateProxy" group.

You can probably get by with this ok, even.

In Win2003 there is modified and better way.

Herb,

Was this security issue not resolved in SP4? I will have
to look again!

Let me know if you find it -- they provided an easy way in Win2003 to
use a "common service account" so that such changes would not cause
interference since the "same user" makes the changes from multiple
DHCP servers.

This record UPDATE account can now be configured in an edit box
on the DNS server.
