Bug in XP Professional perhaps? When I'm at home I use a
Linksys router to share my internet connection with my
laptop and home computer. My laptop is running XP
Professional. I receive my ip address and my ISP's DNS
suffix from the router via DHCP.
I noticed when I went to work that my network config was
not working. Even though I shutdown and powered off my
laptop, my DHCP provided IP address and DNS Suffix were
retained from home, so no wonder I could not connect to
anything at work. ipconfig /release and /renew gets me a
proper IP address for my office LAN, but the "DNS Suffix
for this connection" setting in TCP/IP Advanced / DNS tab
in my ethernet configuration still retains the old DNS
suffix. I have to manually delete that field. This
happens all the time, its not an intermittent problem.
1) Why doesn't a shutdown remove DHCP IP settings?
2) Why doesn't ipconfig /release remove the DNS Suffix
that was provided via DHCP in the first place?
Greg.
