Hello All,

does anyone has experience, getting DFS started on a NAS File Server?

We bought a Snap Appliance 4500 and want to migrate our existing
instable file server silently to this NAS. The built in operating
system is connected to our W2k-AD and the computer is joined the AD. I
can access it, but when I try to add it as replica to an existing DFS
root share, nothing happens. no error-message (status is ok!), no
replication.

The system is set up to share the directory as SMB and NFS.

any idea?

Thanks for you help in advance!
Michael

What is the OS on NAS server? Is it Windows? If not, then you won't be able
to create DFS root on this NAS server. You can create DFS root on Windows
based machines or Windows based NAS servers.

The DFS links can point to shares which are hosted on NAS servers. So you
can create a DFS root on a Windows machine and create links in it which
point to shares on NAS server. If you are trying to add NAS shares as
replica to DFS links, you should be able to add them.

However, if NAS server is not Windows based then you wont be able to have
replication between NAS shares and other replicas of link.
