DFS requests not resolved locally

We have a network with several WAN links. The problem we have is that
whenever use DFS it can go anywhere to resolve and therefore takes time.
The logon process does point us to a local DC so the sites appear to be
setup correctly. I've read the numerous posts about sites but none of them
appear to deal with this problem of DFS.

Anyone know of this problem and the way to fix it ?

After some further investigation it appears to be DNS. The dfs link is only
at one site, we are at multiple sites. We operate round robin and when a
client makes a DNS request it can give us a BDC that is not on the local
site. The client then gets the DFS referal from a remote BDC rather than at
the local. Logging in is fine, it's just DFS referal can be from any of the
BDC across any of the sites.
