Greetings-

Single Site, Single Domain; Windows Server 2003; Two File Servers (Member
servers both). How many DFS roots should I have: one or two. My research
has shown I can create one root per server (NOT VOLUME). Do I need more
than one? Not going to use replication. Will be using Shadow copy (if that
has anything to do with it.)

Thanx
OregonSteve

If your servers run Standard or Web edition, you can have one root per
server. If they are running Enterprise or Datacenter, you can have multiple
roots per server.

Check out the file server design guide at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=16513. This guide will give you many
things to consider if you plan to use DFS.

I appreciate the reply, but I was hoping for a little bit more insight and
advice based on users' experiences...

Thanx
OregonSteve

PS - We are running Standard Edition

Are you looking for fault tolerance? If so, then you really have to have
two roots in case one is down. Otherwise it would be a waste IMO.
