Hi!

I have created a DFS root on one server(SERVER01), and planning to shutdown
(permanently) in this comming weeks. We know that upon creating DFS root,
all W2K server on the network can carry the same Sharename and content. If I
will create a root replica on this DFS root, what procedure do I need for me
to access these files even the SERVER01 is down?

Hope you could give me advise on this.

None. The DFS service will fail over to the other replicas. However, there
is a time lag to discover the replicas and a TTL value. However, you will
fail over. If you want to speed up the process (it should not be more than a
few minutes), you can flush the referral cache using Dfsutil (/pktflush).

None. DFS should fail over automatically to the replica if the current
server is down.

On SERVER01(\\SERVER01\Programs as DFS root on X:\Programs), I have DFS link
(Payroll) on different drive (N:\Payroll), we know that system will create a
folder on X:\Programs with the same folder name as indicated on DFS link
name . I've created a mounted volume on shared folder "Programs" with the
same DFS link name as I made on SERVER01 (it looks like this
\\SERVER02\Programs\Payroll).

After that, I've created a root replica to SERVER02 and after a while, I
cannot access anymore the Payroll share on SERVER02. What did I do wrong?

I already resolve this problem. I just remove the dfs root and create a new
one but this time, pointing to new server. Case close.
