im using windows xp with the service pack 2 and i want to use movie maker to
take the video off of my canon zr80 mini-dv camcorder. every time i try and
capture the video, its shows a size of the video but never shows a preview or
a length of recorded video. plus, when i click finish a box pops up and says
"the video was not captured corectly. verify the your video camera and
capture device are configured properly." can anyone help me?

What method are you using to connect the camera to the computer (USB or
Firewire)? Do you have the camera turned on in VCR mode?

With the error you are receiving it appears that the camera is either not
turned on or the camera is not connected properly.

yes i am using a firewire cord. i also tried to dl sevral other programs to
try capturing and two of them made files on my computer but had no images or
duration times.

Here is a great resource for all WMM issues http://www.papajohn.org/. Go to
the Camera and Capture Devices and click the +. Scroll down (after clicking
on the + at Brands if needed. Click on the Canon folder and scroll all the
way down. The specific model of camera you have listed is not shown but
there appears to be information in relation to similar earlier models. See
if any info here helps.

Sorry too fast on the send, other things to try, replace the firewire cable
with another and try again. Plug the camera into another Firewire port on
this or another computer to see if the camera is at fault, check in Windows
Device Manager to ensure that there is not yellow exclamation mark on the
IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controller. Any of these will cause the exact failure to
connect error messages you received with a connected and turned on to VCR
mode (playback) camera.

none of this works. there is no yellow exclamation mark. i exchanged the
firewire for a different one and it still doesnt work. but thank you for the
help

Try it on another computer. If it still doesn't work, time to send the
camera to Canon for repairs (according to their web site.)
