I tried searching the posts and didn't find an answer -
so I apologize in advance if this is a repeat.

Is there a way for an XPe client to "autodiscover" a DUA
server and pull updates? Or, conversly, a way for an
HTTP server to "autodiscover" clients running DUA and
push updates to them?

The main reason for asking is that, as a hardware
manufacturer, I can't prepopulate a server name for each
customer. So I'm looking for a way to allow DUA
configuration without a user having to set it up manually
on each system. It can be something within the OS or a
programmatic method - doesn't matter to me.

Thanks in advance,
Tony

Tony,

There is no DUA server as is. It is just a http server. Therefore, there
could not be the autodiscover feature for XPe clients.
I guess one way for your to fix the problem would be to have some server
name (or IP) hardcoded in your image and schedule an update on the first
boot (or first day/hour boot). Along with the image you send your customer a
sample DUA script file that will update XPe clients preconfigured settings
to change the server name to the one the customer wants. Of course, the
customer will have to have a machine with the initial preconfigured IP (or
name) running on their network for the deployment time only.
