I have just bought daughter a 1GB Mp3 player for xmas. On plugging into
computer via USB I get a device not recognised message. I am running XP home
edition. I have tried on friends computer & get the same message. On sending
it back to the company I purchased it off, they informed me it working on
their XP system & MS. They sent me a different player & yet I am getting the
same problem. It is plug and play & should'nt need drivers installed.
Tried all I can think of. Could it be settings I have on my computer? Any
help be greatly appreciated. I am not a complete computer wiz & am stumped.

A couple of things to check. First, check if the USB port is active by
plugging
something else to make sure it is working. USB ports may be set to "sleep"
during non-activity. Next, push to power button ON the MP3 player when it
is plugged into the PC, you should hear a "ding-dong" sound when it is
activated and you can check it in My Computer as a removable storage device.
Also, check if the batteries in the MP3 player are good and inserted properly,
recommend rechargeable batteries. Do not under any circumstance FORMAT
the MP3 player, in most players it will render it inoperable. Songs on it
should
be deleted only. Good luck. :~)

Make sure your services are running for this--go to your adm.tools and turn
on your services menu to see what you are running--make sure your Plugin play
services are on and your portable devices are on.
