when i open my device manager, it wants to initiate IE .
i can nolonger see a management tree, all i get is a message internet
explorer cannot open this page...
running winxp sp-3
i think i have corrupted MMC files. any ideas?thanks
pete

Any idea what might have caused this to happen? Anything about your
computer's deep, dark past you want to own up to? Registry cleaner?
Fooled with system settings? Malware infection?

You might find details in Event Viewer to help explain what's going wrong.

Do you have the same trouble if you invoke Device Manager this way:
Start > Run > type: devmgmt.msc > OK

Do you have the same trouble in Safe Mode?

If the problem started very recently you might try restoring to a
restore point made just before the trouble started.

Ideas? I'd continue with the suggestions made to you in the thread you
started on this three days ago in the Basics group.

yeah, well i did but they did not work. thought i'd shop somewhere else,
**** off wise ass.

Ain't gonna find many takers to help you after that one, dummy.

Good catch! That page looks helpful.

thank you. (and that is why i posted to another group.) thank you Ramesh,
the .dll was not found on pc. i will get it off the cd. people who come to
this site and ask respectfully are looking for assistance and guidance, not
a lecture from the newsgroup nazi. next time i wont come to the news groups.
there are other options, where the people who can help , help- and the one's
who don't know the answer refrain from the need to say something.

Gerry,
I think you may have picked the wrong link. Here's the one Ramesh was
referring to http://windowsxp.mvps.org/dmocx.htm

One said not a Valid Address and one said something about a Syntax error.
The links are working now. Could there have been maintenance going on the
site yesterday?

SC Tom

I don't think so. I posted my link to the site after I had tried the links
in the post. Both links in the original post are now working. Yesterday I
got a "Not a Valid Address" response to the one offering advice on the
Device Manager problem.

Could be the case, Gerry. But I didn't get a notification on server
maintenance.

Lecture?? Well, you seem to need to hear it, anyway. You just jumped ship on
the thread in the other group - in the last message there you were given
some more pointers and asked some questions; you have rudely just ignored
these. You could have included this (Perform/Maintain) group in a reply in
that group, thereby cross-posting and observing newsgroup etiquette, not to
mention plain politeness.

There, that was more like a lecture. Feel free to moan about that, now, too.
