<<<<<<<HELP>>>>>>>

I just purchased a cd-rw and windows xp reads that it's
there ... but ... it doesn't have any driver. So, I go to
the device manager and get the following pop-up

MICROSOFT MANAGEMENT CONSOLE - The selected file cannot be
found.

Am I screwed ... or ... is there anything I can do to (a)
change the driver, (b) find out where my device manager went.

Thanks in advance for you assistance.

go to the web sites of -
1/
mfr of cdrw
2/
seller of cdrw
and get the appropriate updated drivers - as
both roxio and nero have had to do w/their
win xp drivers

XP does not need any extra drivers to recognize CD drives (at least to read from
them). If you are getting an exclamation mark by the drive, your system may
have deleted some of the INF files needed by XP to know how to set up new
hardware.

My son's computer suffered from this a short while back. I installed a second
drive for him and XP said it could not install drivers for it. I thought it was
a little strange since the new drive was from the same manufacturer. Knowing
that XP would reinstall the drive upon rebooting, I went ahead and uninstalled
both drives (and his CD drive) thinking that maybe there was some sort of
conflict. Well, no drive could be installed at that point. I compared his
computer to mine and found that several key INF files where missing from the INF
folder. Once they were replaced with good copies, all drives were identified
A-O-K.

BTW... I am thinking that the files might have been deleted by the Disk Clean up
utility built into XP because I found more INF files missing after 30~60 days
had passed.
