Device Manager ! Next to System Management BIOS Driver

Under System Devices there is ! beside Microsoft System Management BIOS
Driver. I tried the update wizard for a new driver with no luck. What does
the ! mean & do I need to get it fixed? If so, how? THANK YOU!

It's likely that your original copy of:
%windir%/system32/drivers/mssmbios.sys
is corrupt. You can try extracting it from msconfig, and the 'Expand File'
button, or run a Repair setup to replace it.

Thanks. Since I reinstalled Windows XP (or repaired) do I need to download
SP1 & SP2 again? If so, how to I override microsoft update to install them
since it is on their website that I already have them on my computer?

No, the updates are 'hotfixes' that a repair keeps.

Sorry, mark but if the XP CD doesn't have SP2 and the Hotfixes, the repair
will take the OP back to the Sp1 or am I got it hotfoxed this time!.

I think Dusty <coughs> should slip stream the SP2 on Her/His CD to avoid the
Updates If she/He wants too.

Also forget about IE7, If dusty will go ahead with Repair/Install should
uninstall IE7 first to be on the safe side.

OK, I was thinking the OP succeeded in repair, and this would fail if the
repair disk was sp1 and the system sp2.
