my computer always detects the new
hardware "joystick_de_consula_01" and I have no idea how
to prevent it from "discovering" this hardware that I do
not own. Any ideas/advice would be appreciated

also, how do I remove icons from my control panel that
are not part of windows and seemed to have found their
way there (heh)?

Do you have an onboard sound chip or a separate sound card? If onboard is
present, you may be able to disable the joystick it includes. Check your
BIOS settings.

To remove unwanted control panel icons, search for *.CPL files. Delete the
ones that you don't want. The name may be kind of cryptic. If unsure what
something is, you can double click the *.CPL file to bring up the
corresponding control panel applet.

The normal gameport (on an sb audigy gamer card) works
fine, and has its own driver. I did fix the control panel
problem though

May want to check Creative's knowledge base for advice on the game
controller.

If this was happening on my system, I would cancel the hardware detection
at startup unless it offered me the choice to add a driver. If it offers
that choice, use it and point it to the installed drivers for the gameport.
Otherwise, cancel and use Device Manager> Gameport properties> Update
drivers and then direct XP to the already installed drivers.

Glad to hear that you have the control panel thing sorted out.
