Device IP?

Who is it that wants to know? A program running on the desktop or a program
running on the device?

It's important because of where the code would run. If the device needs to
know it's own IP that's totally different than if the PC needs to know.

You need it on the PC. It's simplest to just use the PPP_PEER host name.
