Device Drivers

I have upgraded my Win XP to Vista and my audio, dvd, and touchpad devices
are unable to load. Tried reinstalling the device drivers, uninstalling and
reinstalling etc etc and nothing works to solve the problems. Any ideas?
Would it work better if instead of upgrading I made a clean install from
scratch?
