Device Driver error code 39

Dear Newsgroup,

Neither the external (HP 8200 series writer) nor internal
CD reader (generic) are functioning and error code 39
consistently displays. Both quit at the same time.
Updating or removing/reinstalling the driver results in
the same code 39 message. Launching the troubleshooter
brings a blank screen and seems this secific
troublshooter is lost completely. Perplexed, so are
several others.

CDROM from another computer does not work. Ribbon cables
are good, ZIP drive works (same cable), Floppy works.

If you have installed an earlier version of Roxio Easy CD Creator, uninstall
it and apply this fix:
