Developing Speech Applications with Speech SDK 5.1

i am on the pursuit to make my Web/Desktop applications speech enable - i just downloaded Speech SDK 5.1 from microsoft hoping to develop with Visual bascic - although, i am not a total novice but i want to know if this will work well for my Web and Desktop Speech Applications?
