I need to develop a application for a charity which still has Win 98
computers. My computer is Win XP Pro and I have Office 2000. This is the
first time I am developing an application for someone else and I have had no
need to upgrade my MS Office package to date.

I'm willing to buy a new copy of office for myself but I can't affor to buy
one for anyone else. I'm voluntering my time for development and training.'

What do I need to develop a MS office appplication for someone who is still
on Win 98?

Thanks,
Glo

Hi Glo,

If the charity's computers have Access 2000 or Access 2002 installed, or
can install it, all _you_ need is Access 2000.

Otherwise you will need to obtain the Developer Edition of Office 2000
or Office XP: this comes with a "run-time" edition of Access that can be
packaged with your application and installed free of charge with it. As
far as I know Microsoft no longer sells this but copies are often
available on EBay or other channels. (The corresponding version of
Office 2003 will be no use because Access 2003 won't run in Windows 98.)

access 2.0, acesss95, access97 access2000, access2002 (access XP) all work
just fine on windows 98SE

I repeat, all versions up to access 2002 (office XP) install, and work fine
on windows 98.

The only version of access EVER made that I am aware that does not install
on windows 98 is access2003.

So, every other version every made actually works with win98SE

So, it is interesting to note that all old versions install on the new
windows xp also. So, while today, we can't install office 97 on a old 1994
computer, you can certainly install a 10 year old version of ms-access on a
new pc. Compatibility in this regards is rather amazing.
