Hi guys,

I'm back... :) Had some time to relax this summer in sunny california
- it's now time to get back to the "serious" stuff - i.e. final year
at university.

My plan for my final-year project was to develop an application that
would use the fingerprint reader on the iPAQ 5550/5555. However after
doing some research (on this newsgroup) I found that some people were
not too happy with that device (i.e. buggy, fingerprint reader doesn't
always work etc..). So my question is, should I use that device to
program an application ? (the fingerprint reader is the reason why I
chose that device).

Any experiences, advice etc.. are mostly welcome!

Thanks,

jez

Couldn't comment on the 5555, but the 5550 seems to be ok - not had any
major issues myself - I fiddled with the fingerprint reader (not in
code) and found it just takes getting used to.

Good luck with the project.

Paul, thanks for the feedback! Does anyone have any hands-on
coding/programming experience with the biometric security API on the
5550/5555 ? I'm just wondering how bad the bugs are and whether they
are sufficiently bad for me to choose a different project without
fingerprint reader.

Thanks again

I believe the only difference between the 5555 and the 5550 is that one is
purchased retail where as the other is purchased through corporate sales. I
think the models ending in '5' are corporate sales which would make the
other retail.

Other than that, the devices are identical.
