Finally!

Tonight (Sept 18, 2003), I finally got my beloved Dethkarz to run
under Windows 2000. It's not my work, though, I simply tried a few
patches - and now it all runs great! Here is what I did:

1.) To make Dethkarz run at all, install from the CD as usual under
Windows 2000, and then search the Internet for the following No-CD
patch: TC_DEKARZ.zip, by "Dirty Harry", from 15-12-1998!! I found this
file on GameCopyWorld here:

http://dl.gamecopyworld.com/dl.cgi?tc_dekrz!zip

This patch searches your HDD for the Dethkarz executable, and replaces
it with one that NOT ONLY removes the CD check, it also RUNS UNDER
WINDOWS 2000!!! This is so great! Thanks, Dirty Harry. I am not sure
if this was intended, but it's just wonderful.

2.) Secondly, to make Dethkarz look as great as it did on the VooDoo
cards, you need to somehow work around the lack of 8-bit palletized
texture support on many current video cards, for example the Radeon
series. If you don't do this, Dethkarz runs just fine, but it looks
dull and crappy, not as glossy, translucent, and slick as you remember
it. Here's the fix: Download and install the recent Glide Wrapper by
Zeckensack here:

http://home.t-online.de/home/zsack/glide_wrapper/

This wrapper seems to work great with my Radeon 7500, and the
documentation claims it'll run on all current cards, even taking
advantage of some features in the Radeon 9500, if you have one. Fact
is, installation was a snap, now you can select the 3dfx API under
Dethkarz Configuration, and Dethkarz is back in all its splendor and
glory, just as it used to be! Jay! And it works smooth, fast, just
like a dream... Who would have thought this to be possible.

Have a great day, y'all. SJO, Palo Alto, 9-18-2003
