Determining Fonts Used

Larry(LJL269)

I just got the new Photoshop 8 which takes forever to
startup. The FAQs suggest that you delete some fonts
not being used. I have about 250 fonts loaded of which
only using about three or four than I know of --
Verdonna I use whenever possible since studies have
determined that is one of the easiest to read but for a
few applications, like Internet Explorer, that is not
an option. Otherwise I would have just one.

Ideally it would be nice if there was some place where
the last date of each fonts last use was available. The
detailed view of the fonts folder I don't think has
this available.

I'm not sure what happens if an application needs a
font but doesn't find it installed. I am sure I do not
want to go through that laborious procedure of
resetting all of fonts in the appearances tab of the
desktop.

Comments/suggestions/corrections appreciated.
Thanks- bye- Larry

Any advise is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.

It could be your video driver rather than the amount of fonts. Slide the acceleration
down on your adapter to see if it makes a difference, right-click your desktop,
properties, settings tab, advanced button, troubleshoot tab. If this helps go to the
web site of your adapter manufacturer and look around for an upgraded driver.

Font managers are available. This type of application allows you to use fonts on the
fly. The fonts are not installed but are available for the application you are
currently using.

An alternative but have to find, install, test,....

IF OS or app wants a font that is not installed,
what happens? Can I specify "use Verdana instead"?

I know I've disabled some type of font downloading in
IE.

Your help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks- bye- Larry
