4 years after my tech built up my computer, I do have Administrator rights,
but now need the Administrator Password in order to install Recovery
Console using the OS CD.

I understand this utility may detect the existing password.

NT Toolkit V1.97
https://www.netikus.net/products_downloads.html

Has anyone used this, opinions?

Is there another way to detect the existing password?

Hello ms,

Ask your tech guy, he should give you or configure it for you.

Hello ms,

BTW, cracking passwords is not the intention of this newsgroup.

Hello ms,

If you google a bit there exist tools to reset the administrator account
password.

You can use the tool I pointed you to to reset it.
Below assumes you have used the utility.

I read the data from that site, downloaded the floppy files. it seemed
pretty complex. Today I read it again, off the deep end where I'm at. But I
followed the instructions for creating several floppies, rebooted, made
choices, finally was greeted with "what is the path to registry directory,
(relative to windows disk)".

The registry is a hidden file, with windows in C and typical installation,
what is the path statement to the registry directory?

Assume by windows disk they mean windows partition?

It unpacked lots of files, not obvious where located in C, but no matter.

If I recall correctly it is easier to create and use the bootable CD-Rom

The default registry location is;

C:\winnt\system32\config

Thanks, with just the right search criteria, I got a lot of sites to look
at.

I read the data on creating a CD. Please advise again, why do I enable
Recovery Console relative to the original corrupted file issue?

I did change the registry key to 1 as you recommended, so with that done,
what benefit is the Recovery Console for this situation?

There is now no file issues at all on the machine at this time.

Thanks

*** I don't know why you're trying to install the RC since you can always
start it by booting the CD-Rom

*** If you're refering to the DWORD "SetCommand" at
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Setup\RecoveryConsole then
it allows you to, among others, use the command;

SET allowallpaths = TRUE

to gain access to all folders. But you can't do anything from the RC without
the local administrator password which I assume is what got you on this
particular path.
