detecting intergraded sound

I have a home built computer with no documentation and
was wondering if there is a way to identify what sound
drivers to use. I have opened it up and there is no sound
card so I assume it is intergraded. There are the 3
outputs for speakers, microphone and audio in.. on the
motherboard. Is there a way to figure this out or am I
just spinning my wheels.

I need to know if you have ever heard sound from this
computer before. Was it given to you? Have you looked in
the "device manager" to see if a sound card is present?
Sorry to have to ask all these questions, but the last
response I wrote to you was about 3 pages long, and too
difficult to answer without more info. I also need to know
if you can get in to the computer's setup, or BIOS.
And what version of windows you are using, and what kind
of processor you have.
If you could, please make another posting with as much
information you can find. Even the mother board maker and
model should be on the motherboard, but it may be hard to
find. Just make sure you get grounded and the power is off
before you dig around in there-Just touch the chassis of
the computer case after it is off to ground yourself.

If there are outputs, then you have integrated sound (Please NB correct
spelling!)

Use W2K's System Information utility.

Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools -->Computer
Management --> System Tools --> System Information.

Or look for a freeware or shareware utility on the web - there are lots of
them , and several do a better job than W2K's utility. You can also get
system info utilities on those CDs that come with some PC magazines, (eg,
Maxximum PC comes with a CD-ROM, and includes at least one of these utilities
on every other month or so.)

It is likely AC-97 and requires drivers from the mainboard vendor.

Use www.aida32.hu/dos/ to identify unknown hardware.
