Detecting DV video camera connected to Firewire

When I connect my Sony Camcorder (DCR-PC100) to the Firewire port on my ASUS
P5W DH Deluxe motherboard the Camcorder doesn't seem to be detected, i.e when
I select Capture from video device in Movie Maker I get the error message
that "a video capture device was not detected.

I need some ideas on how to trouble shoot this.

The Firewire cable is connected correctly.
The Camcorder is turned on to "VTR" mode.
The device driver for the TI IEEE 1394 host controller is enabled and running.
I'm running Windows XP Service Pack 2.
When I plug in the Firewire cable the OS does not prompt a message
indicating new hardware found. (not sure if I should expect this to happen)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help,

Hi Rob,

I'm running into the exactly same problem with my P5W DH. I tried
different camcorders, cables, even a separate PCI-Firewire-card.

Did you solve this problem?

Regards,
Kay.

When I tried a different Camcorder the Firewire port worked correctly.
So to be clear, initially neither MovieMaker nor Pinnacle Studio worked with
my Sony. When I re-tested with the borrowed camcorder I only re-tested with
Pinnacle and not MovieMaker. Everything works with the borrowed camcorder.

The only thing that I could come up with is when I built my system I had the
firewire block incorrectly connected to my motherboard. I'm assuming that
when I plugged in my Sony camcorder the first time, that the firewire port
was damaged on the camcorder. Right now I'm stuck using the borrowed
camcorder.

Let me know if you find anything else and get yours working, since I really
don't want to have to buy a new camcorder.
