Every time I try to switch from Thumbnails to Details view, I get the ...has
encountered a problem and needs to close" error message. Does anyone know of
a fix for this?

TIA

Yes, in Movie Maker. There aren't any files, per se. Just the standard clips
in the contents pane. It happens in all collections. The clips are fine in
the Thumbnails view. MM just won't let me switch to Details view using
either the View menu or the toolbar buttons.

Thanks for the lead, but no go.

The clips in the contents pane aren't files. Each is a pointer into segment
of a video file. That's why if you delete the video file, the clips all turn
to red X's. They file into which they point no longer exists.

=============================
Right click Red X / Browse for missing file.
If the missing file has been removed from
the computer...
Right click Red X / Delete.

Now 2 possible cures for the Details View.

#1) You fail to mention your OS...if you are
running Vista...disregard the following.

Some users have reported problems
after installing IE7. If this applies to your
situation ...uninstalling IE7 may be worth
a try.

(927177) How to uninstall Internet Explorer 7
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927177/en-us

I've also seen a report that disabling the
ffdshow codec could be the fix. To accomplish
this...open Movie Maker and go to...Tools /
Options / Compatibility tab...Uncheck...
ffdshow / OK.

#2) If you reduce your Graphics Hardware Acceleration
as per the instructions in the following article and
realize an improvement, it's an indication that you
need to update your video driver:

(263391) How to Change the Graphics
Hardware Acceleration Setting in Windows
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=263391

FWIW...reducing the graphics hardware
acceleration may not the actual *fix*...it
is merely a way of testing to see if your
Video Driver needs to be reinstalled or
updated.

I would suggest that you go to the support
website of your video adapter's mfg. and
search for drivers.

If you don't know the make and model of
your video adapter...check the documentation
that came with the computer.

Also you could try these steps...
Go to...Start / Run...type...
msinfo32 ...press enter.

On the System Information screen...choose...
Components / Display...

You should find the make and model of your
display adapter as well as the driver version.

If the driver on the support website is more
current than the one you are running...
download it and install it. Also, installation
instructions which should be closely followed
should be available at the support site.

Once the new video driver is installed...you
can reset your Acceleration to Full.

Ooops, didn't realise John had replied. and I pressed send before adding the
last bit.

As the file no longer exists, you cannot have details of it.
