Detaching/Reattaching RAID on P4B533-E

If I detach my two RAID disks and then hook up another disk to the
normal IDE and boot the machine, will I be able to later detach the
IDE disk, re-attach the two RAID disks and boot as if I had done none
of this?

I need the voice of experience on this, as my RAID disks are critical
and I can't afford to lose them. However, I would very much like to
be able to build a new disk from scratch (non-RAID) and then
re-install my RAID disks.

For that matter, I have the same question re: the P4P800 Deluxe ...

On the P4B533-E with the Promise controller the answer is YES. I have moved
my raid-0 disk set from an add-in FastTrak66 on my Abit BX6-R2 to my
P4B533-E to my P4C800-E. The Promise controllers all seem pretty compatible
with each other, and thus your task seems simple in comparison. You will
not even need to re-enter the Promise BIOS screen as the Raid-Set data
apparently is stored on the disks.

DanO,

Thanks, that's encouraging.

I invite others to mention their experiences here if possible. A few
more data points would increase my confidence level.

BTW, my RAID is a type 1, redundant disks. I'm covering for hardware
failure.

I have a P4B533-E.

I wired a switch to the RAID jumper on the motherboard. I use it to turn my
RAID controller ON or OFF before I boot the machine (depending on whether I
think I'll be needing any video files that are stored on my RAID drives).

Maybe that info helps?
