Suddenly, I can't drag a saved MSW document from my desktop to a file folder
anymore. All it will do it COPY to the file, leaving the original MSW doc
still on the desktop. Since I'm a writer, I'll soon have a desktop full of
saved MSW docs. The help menu does not address this problem.

Hi Elizabeth

I`m afraid your question is off topic for this newsgroup which is for
Windows Defender beta 2 antispyware questions. Try this URL where you may
post your question:

Incidentally. Rather than creating desktop shortcuts to your docs. Have you
considered creating a folder called Word in your My Documents folder and then
saving to that folder? You can then configure Word to default to that folder
whenever you want to Open a document to work on. Just a thought.

Hope this helps.

If you uninstall Windows Defender, can you then drag the document without
any issue?

You are likely dragging it to a *different* HDD or partition, in which case
Windows makes a copy, but does not delete the original. To move it to your
preferred location, RIGHT click the file, drag it to the new location, and
choose MOVE HERE from the context menu. (Choose COPY HERE if you actually
want a copy.)
